Day Two in Bangkok

The thunder and lighting is back today. It just started, I'm waiting for the rain to start.

Today I made it to the train station. Originally I was going to try and take the bus but I had no clue if i was in the correct spot. After waiting for a while I decided that I would take a taxi. I was able to buy my ticket to Nong Khai with no problems. I didn't get a bottom bunk, which i have been told is better, because the ticket person said it was the last bed in second class. I took it and then walked around the train station exploring a little bit. There wasn't too much to see and I didn't know what else was in the area so I took a taxi back to Khaosan Rd. I didn't sleep well last night so I look a short nap.

When you walk into my hotel room you put your key into a slot to turn the AC and lights on. When i first walked in one light would come on automatically. Then you would turn the other ones on. Well, I didn't understand/see the small button that turned that one small, but bright, light off so I had a hard time sleeping. If i took the key out of it's spot the AC would go off and then I would be hot... it wasn't a good night. Tossing and turning all night... hot and cold. I'm glad i brought my sleep sack and cloth sleeping sheet.

I know that it is normal for people to walk up to you and ask you "where you go" but being by myself I find it very unnerving. I know that it isn't harassment in their eyes but after getting it four times in 10 feet i don't like it. *the rain has started and it is coming down hard, and the thunder and lighting is right over head!* So getting use to that and politely as possible saying go away is hard. *the thunder was so loud that i jumped. the ceiling has started leaking again at the Internet cafe it's a little crazy! this place seems like it's falling apart!*

My stomach can't hold much food right now. Not that I am sick but it feels like my stomach has shrunk and nothing seems appetizing. *I'm getting wet from where i am sitting... a few splashes here and there... more spots are starting to leak.*

The tears aren't coming down so hard today. Reading my e-mail is a little bit of a tear jerker but I love seeing familiar names in my inbox. So keep them coming.

Hi Sweetie
I don't know why I thought it would be a few days before we heard from you. Sounds like you're getting the hang of things. Its weird people keep asking you to tell them where to go. And the weather sounds wild. And a drippy, wet Internet cafe sounds apropos somehow.

I haven't been sleep well either. My cat puked on the bed at like 5 this morning. A rather rude awakening. And at this age, lack of sleep just isn't a good color on me.

I miss seeing you at work. Of course, I haven't been working (no hours for anyone) so I wouldn't be seeing you even if you were here.

Looking forward to the next update. this blogging stuff is new to me...

Hey Amy,
Now I'm blogger too! Good idea using the taxi if things are overwhelming, the little ones look likes womb. One of the great thinks about kids is that they keep you doing new stuff no matter how old you are.
Glad you were able to get a ticket/bunk and glad the REI gear is working out so well.
Love you,
Liz

Amy, I'm so proud of you for making such a big, brave decision! This sounds like the perfect next step for you. I'm so glad you're writing a blog, too. I still look at my blog from Italy sometimes and remember how much I learned about myself and the world when I was there. I'll be so interested to follow your experiences as an American abroad during a super important election!

Have fun, take care of yourself, don't get too wet!
hugs

I understand about the loss of appetite - the same thing happened for me when I went to the UK. I'm sure that by next week you'll be back to normal on the eating front! It was so good to talk to you yesterday and to read about your adventures! Good to hear getting the train ticket went smoothly! Talk to you soon!
Love,
Rachel

Another night of sleep without the light on and with a/c can't hurt. Look forward to exploring
Bangkok with you.

....so i'm hoping none of this water is falling on the computers? haha, oh god. that would just make everything perfect. :)

I hope that your appetite will come back when your body adjusts to being thrown into a different timezone. I'm glad you managed to get a ticket and a place to sleep for the train to Thailand though! That will make everything better!!! ...good luck sleeping on the way up there....at least you can stretch out! I'll pray for good bunkmates. :) lol

How did today go? Hopefully each day is getting better.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! --kt
